The camera has captured her scabs, pimples and hyperpigmentation time and again. Later there were reports that she was suffering from psoriasis on her elbow and was undergoing treatment for the same.

What is psoriasis?
It is a non-contagious common skin condition which results in rapid skin cell reproduction with the skin getting red, dry, patchy and thick. It also results in dry flakes and skin scales due to rapid buildup of skin cells. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, and scalp. The cause of this disease is unknown though it’s said to be because of genetic predisposition and environmental factors.

Treatment
There in no known permanent cure of psoriasis as it is said to come back even after treatment. Treatment for small areas involves prescription topical cortisone creams and vitamin D creams. Extensive psoriasis can be treated with injectable anti-inflammatory medicines called biologics. Since they suppress the immune system and can increase the risk of infections, those tend to be reserved for wider areas. But overuse if immunosuppressants are not recommended as they can lead to various other disorders.

Studies have shown that natural sunlight can cure psoriasis though the results may vary in patients. There are also light therapy’s available in clinics that have shown remarkable improvement in cases of psoriasis. These lights include PUVA, UVB, and narrow band UVB
